I’m a journalist, and if it weren’t for the Internet, I wouldn’t be an effective one. I need information quickly, whether it’s the news, for research or even to verify the spelling of someone’s name that I mention in an article.
Everyone knows that the Internet is such a strong communication tool. It has video, media, news, movies — you name it. I use it to look up information on my beat towns via their government and school district websites. The entire day, I have several browser tabs opened up to various news websites, including news.google.com, NY Daily News, northjersey.com, nj.com, cnn.com and msnbc.com. I also have a tab open for my personal e-mail (my bosses don’t mind; they don’t care — as long as I get my stories in) and for Facebook (again, my bosses don’t care). I also check my professional work e-mail, which apparently requires Internet connection. Because of e-mail, I can get press releases and breaking news faster than the speed of light. Okay, maybe not as fast as the speed of light, but you get the idea. LOL
